How to Record a Song for a Wedding (Simple Studio Process)

Recording a song as a wedding gift is simpler than most people expect. In many cases, it can be done in a single session, with editing and delivery handled soon afterward.

At Sheboygan Recording, this type of project is straightforward and doesn’t require a long studio booking or complicated setup.

  • record a song as a gift or part of the ceremony
  • it’s easier and faster than expected
  • typically only requires a single recording session

What the Process Looks Like

For a typical song, the process is simple:

1. Get the backing track
Either you or us will need to obtain an instrumental version of the song.

2. Record your vocals
You come in and sing the vocal parts. If you're well-prepared, you may be happy with the first take. If not, we can re-record sections or even individual lines to make it perfect.

3. Edit and balance
After recording, the vocal and music are edited and balanced. This can include:

  • balancing the music with the vocal
  • pitch or timing adjustments (if you want them)
  • removing breaths or noises

4. Finalize and deliver
The finished audio is exported and shared with you. If you need small adjustments, those can usually be handled within the same project.

How Long It Takes

Most wedding song recordings fit comfortably within a 3-hour session.

In some cases, the recording itself only takes a few minutes. The rest of the time is used for setup, editing, and finalizing the track.

Cost

Typical cost: 3 hours (Rates)

If the project goes beyond 3 hours, our hourly rate applies, but that’s uncommon for this type of recording. We can estimate costs in advance if it will exceed 3 hours.

What You Need To Bring

  • A backing track (we will discuss options ahead of time)
  • Yourself, prepared to sing the vocals
  • 2 weeks advance notice is preferred for scheduling

You can send the track ahead of time or bring it to the session.

About Backing Tracks and Licensing

Depending on how the song will be used, a license may be required for the backing track.

I can help point you in the right direction, but it’s your responsibility to make sure any requirements are met.

What Happens Behind The Scenes

In addition to the vocal recording session, time is spent on:

  • setting up recording equipment and sound-checking your voice
  • preparing the backing track into the session
  • editing and balancing the music and voice song
  • exporting and delivering the final audio file in the proper format

For most projects like this, our 3-hour package will cover everything from prep to final delivery.
